AWARDED SECOND PLACE IN INTERNATIONAL STUDENT PHOTO COMPETITION | DISPLAYED IN GALLERY 23 AT THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS SAN ANTONIO
The Palio is the most important event in Siena, taking place on July 2 and August 16 every year.
It is one of the most exhilarating events to be a part of and to experience. You can feel the hooves as the stampede around the corner and hear the elation of the crowd as their horse nears the finish line.
This rare event holds pageantry and a sense of pride in your contrada or neighborhood. I was lucky enough to be a part of this while studying abroad in Siena, Italy and it is truly a moment I will never forget.
As the horses rounded the corner I pressed my shudder down and hoped an image would appear. I couldn’t believe the image I had captured, the winning horse and its rider along with several other horses appeared on my screen. To know that I was able to witness something that is meant for the people of Siena has humbled me beyond words.
